Up North Vacation 2009

During the first week of August, Justin and I went on a vacation with my family in northern Wisconsin. We had a blast! This year we rented a house on South Turtle Lake in Winchester, WI. There was lots of relaxation, games, fishing, boat rides, and bacon (although I don't think we went through 25 lbs. like we did one year...probably because Joe wasn't there). I didn't really do any fishing, but Justin did. He actually caught the first fish, a delicious bass, without even trying. My dad and Justin were just sitting on the boat drinking beer one afternoon and had their lines in the water, and all of a sudden Justin is looking around and says, "hey, where's my bobber?" It had drifted under the pier and attached to it was a fish!
Justin learned how to clean the fish too. My cousins, Mia and Kaylie, didn't really understand this part. When we asked them if they wanted to keep the fish they caught, they wanted to keep them as pets, but when we say "keep" we mean "keep to eat". The weather was too cold to go swimming, but we still wanted to see if Emi could swim. On the one day where it warmed up just enough to be tolerable we put her in the water. Justin got in too.... There was no way I was getting in though - that water was cold! We found out that Emi can swim, she just doesn't really want to swim. She loved riding on the boat, though. I'm sure that was mostly because she got to be with everybody. She was never very happy when Justin and I went on the boat without her. We could hear her barking from all the way across the lake!

Even though we caught a lot of fish, we still went to the trout farm in Watersmeet, MI. We had a lovely fish fry on the last day we were at the house. We probably didn't even need to use any of the fish that we caught at the trout farm since we had caught so many in the lake. Here's Kaylie with the very friendly butterfly we met on our bog hike. It kept landing on people. I've never seen a butterfly do that before. It was pretty cool.
More pictures are on my Facebook page, and if you are friends with my Uncle Kurt, he has some up on his page too. I'm looking forward to next year!
