The BIG Krannert Wine Tasting

This past Monday was the annual BIG wine tasting at Krannert sponsored by Piccadilly Beverage Shops. Justin and I have made a point to go to the big Krannert wine tasting for the past couple of years. If you are in Champaign and have never gone to this then keep on the lookout for it next year because it's awesome. The entry fee is $10, all of which goes to charity, there are hundreds of wine to taste (this year there were cheeses too!) and there's a discount on any wines ordered that night. We like to do a make-your-own case type deal where we pick our 12 favorites - definitely worth it if you drink a lot of wine. Aside from there being cheese I think the highlight this year was the comparative tables. There were two Tempranillo tables and one Sauvignon Blanc table. We tasted all the wines at one of the Tempranillo tables and a couple of wines at the Sauvignon Blanc table. I'm always amazed at how the same type of grape can produce wines with different flavors.

If you missed the BIG Krannert tasting, no worries there are plenty of weekly wine tastings to go to in Champaign-Urbana. Here's a few that I know of...

Uncorked: Thursdays, 5-7 pm @ Krannert. Price: free!

Piccadilly Beverage Shops: Fridays 4-8 pm and Saturdays 1-4 pm @ the Neil and Village Crossing locations. Price: $3

Sun Singer Wine & Spirits: Saturdays 12-4 @ Sun Singer. Price: free!

Sun Singer is also having their annual gala wine tasting on Thursday Oct. 22nd, 5-8 pm @ the Orpheum Theater in downtown Champaign. Price: $20/person. I've never been to this one, but I love Sun Singer so maybe we'll check it out this year.
