That's right, I'm waving that little white flag. I surrendered to pop culture. I gave in to peer pressure. I joined Facebook. Am I being melodramatic? Yes. Will I eventually come to be happy about my decision? Probably.
I've been rebelling against Facebook for years. I remember people talking about it when it first came out; when it was still exclusive to college students. At the time I simply wrote it off as something that the "kids" were doing. I didn't see why you would need to have a webpage to keep in touch with people, especially when you see most of those people regularly. I mean, what was wrong with email? Of course, nowadays everyone is on Facebook and all of them try to convince those of us not on Facebook to join Facebook. So why after all this time resisting signing up for a Facebook account am I doing it now, you ask? Well, my reasons are twofold. (1) I'd like to try and get in touch with my high school friends that I haven't talked to in years just to see what they're up to (I miss them!). (2) I'm tired of people telling me that they have these awesome pictures of such and such event, but they only put them on Facebook so that it's impossible to see them unless you too are on Facebook. Basically, I'm giving in to everyone who keeps telling me I should be on Facebook.
And so I say to those of you who are still not on Facebook.... Way to go! Stay strong. I totally support your decision not to get wrapped up in yet another interweb time-waster. But then again, don't you want to see my Facebook page? I'll probably have some awesome pictures up there soon. ;)
