I'm going to start off by saying that I'm really impressed with the speed of the US postal service. I mailed out all of the wedding invitations on Saturday and from what I've heard, they were delivered to (nearly) everyone today. So on the whole, job well done USPS...if only their customer service could be as good...
I ended up having to go to not one but two post offices on Saturday because the first one I went to doesn't do the canceling (I mailed the invites in person because I wanted to request that they be hand canceled). The woman at the first post office was also a bit sassy as she told me that they don't do the canceling and she also told me in her high and mighty postal worker tone that she doubted that they would hand cancel them anyway. I thanked her and left. At the second post office I again waited in line (why is there always a long wait at the post office?) and when it was my turn, I again requested that the invitations be hand canceled. The woman told me I needed to have stamps on the envelopes (apparently she assumed that I have never mailed anything in my life). I politely told her that they had stamps already. She said she would put a note on them, but that obviously didn't help. To top things off, my friend Anna's invitation was sent to my house because it had been canceled on the wrong side (by machine, I might add) meaning that I have to go to the post office again. Oh well, at least the invitations were delivered quickly.
